Hello All!

Yesterday we had what must have been a record turnout for Go-Club-on-the-Road. In attendance at the Wine Vaults in Southsea were Peter, Sheila, Mike, Andy, newcomers Jared and Rachael, and myself. At one point we had four games going at once: Sheila v Andy, Peter v Jared, Mike v Dave and Mike v Rachel on the 9x9.

Above: Two 19x19 games (one is out of frame), a 9x9 game, and a teaching game. Next time we may need a bigger table.

Jared has played Go in the past but this was his first game with PGC and his first ladder game. He has been added to the ladder at the rank of 25 kyu, and he's sure to climb quickly! Rachel has only just been introduced to Go by yours truly, and she played a 9x9 game with Mike then practiced with Jared on Peter's tablet.

Of course, despite our being on the road, the spirit of Purbrook endures and there were many digressions and side conversations about revolution and the benefits of an arts education.

Peter also brought his latest toy far all to admire, a half-frame Olympus PEN SLR. Not realizing it was loaded with film, I took a photo by accident which must have been severely underexposed. Sorry, Peter, but at least it was only half a frame!

Andy arrived with the gift of Crown Royal whiskey drawstring bags, which are now my transport bags for my bowls and stones. Thanks Andy!

Next week, alas, Andy and I will be unavailable, but if anyone else would like to host or propose a meeting location next week, please do so!

I look forward to seeing you all two weeks from now, perhaps at a location with more convenient parking!

Hello All!

Last night was a fun and successful, but sparsely attended session of Go-Club-on-the-Road. In attendance were Andy, new member Rachael, and myself.

Andy and I fought just one (fiercely contested) ladder game, then several 9x9 games using a template that Andy cleverly fashioned from a napkin. We each played a couple of games of first capture go with Rachael on the 9x9. She's off to a great start, and with some more help from our more experienced teachers, we'll soon have her on the ladder!

Of course, despite the change in location, this was still the same Purbrook Go Club in spirit, so equal time at the meeting was devoted to discussing solar powered sun loungers, potato cannon, and weighty matters of religion and philosophy.

We've tentatively planned the next meeting for 2130 next Thursday the 27th at the Wine Vaults, but please let me know if there's another time or place that's more suitable. The more the merrier!

Also, the online ladder is up to date again, and can be viewed and modified by anyone on this list:

Hope to see you next week,

Dave
